The shaman washed the crimson from his hands. He glanced at the girl chained to the table, his eyes sparkling with the satisfaction of a task quickly completed.
Dagfinn, could hear the words screaming through her smashed lips.
‘Abbarane, is dead.’
His mind whirled with the new possibilities.
The witch would never interfere again, nor would her chosen successor. He turned back to the girl, a long blade in his hand.
A golden halo sparkled around his prisoner.
“A last present for my beautiful daughter, Ula.”
As the talons of the eagle ripped his face apart, Dagfinn couldn’t even scream.

Winter’s Raven

The first of winter’s snow danced and swirled into the valley on a soft breeze. Melkin watched as the white powder settled on his boots. He pulled his cloak closer and spat on the ground. His hatred for this place and its inhabitants grew with each cold breath he took.
He smiled as he watched the unsuspecting hoard of townspeople move into the valley. Killing his sister, the queen, was supposed to be his glory and these brainless pigs had ruined it all.
He turned and looked at the being closest to him. “Kill them all, Deadenfall.”

The Journey

My cloak swirled about my shoulders. An icy wind burned my cheeks, forcing a deep choke of air from my lungs. I lost everything. No one survived. With no other choice, I abandoned the only home I knew. Snow-capped valleys filled with orcs await me. Wraiths who live in the wood seek to steal my soul. But I do not fear the monsters ahead. I fear the fear. I fear the rage roiling inside.
Have I the strength to go on? Have I the strength to survive?

FantasyCon Mini-Interview with Auden Johnson

Q – Are you a Reader, Author, Blogger, or Artist?

A – I’m actually all four. I’ve been losing myself in books since I was a kid. I’ve published several dark fantasy books. I’ve been blogging for about 5 years now and I design my own book cover and book images.

Q – If you could live as a functioning part of any fantasy world, which would you choose, and what would you be?

A – The first thing that comes to mind is Harry Potter. I’d be a witch pre-book 5. Though, I doubt I’d jump ship when Voldemort comes back.
Q – What Authors have influenced you most?

A – Anne Bishop, I love her characters. They live in the area between good and evil. I also like Mark Lawrence for the same reason.

Q – Have you written any stories? If so, please share them with us.

A – I’ve written several stories, most are short stories or novellas. The novel series is The Merging Worlds Series, Book 1 The Sciell Book 2 Chains of the Sciell

FantasyCon Mini-Interview with Ashley Dunnewin, Author

Virtual Fantasy Con banner

Q – Are you a Reader, Author, Artist, or Blogger?

A – I’m an author. My author name is A. M. Dunnewin.

Q – What is your earliest fantasy story memory, book or movie?

A – My earliest would be the movie The NeverEnding Story. It was so different yet so fantastical that it’s probably one of the first stories that got me hooked to fantasy.

Q – If you could shift into any creature you wanted, what would you choose, and why?

A – I’d probably shift into a unicorn, just because I was obsessed with them when I was little. Still am, now that I think about it.

Q – Have you written any stories? If so, please share them with us.

A – I have. My dark fantasy story is titled The Benighted, which is about a princess who is imprisoned after she helps her knight escape when he’s convicted for a murder he didn’t commit. It borderlines on gothic fiction with a hint of steampunk, but the haunting way its written and some of the brutal scenes it has is what makes it a dark fantasy. It’s also the first book in a saga, so if anyone wants to know more about when the sequel is coming, they can follow my Facebook page to get the latest scoop: http://www.facebook.com/A.M.Dunnewin

A FantasyCon Mini Interview with Cait Spivey, Author of ‘From Under the Mountain’.

Virtual Fantasy Con banner

Q – What do you love most about fantasy?

A – My favorite thing about fantasy is that it’s the perfect avenue to explore metaphor as a literal thing. As someone who lives with depression, writing dark fantasy and paranormal stories allows me to take those dark parts of my psyche and personify them, communicate with them, interpret them, and perhaps most importantly, challenge or accept them.

Q – If you could be a part of any fantasy world, which would you choose?

A – It’s a toss-up between Middle Earth and Harry Potter’s wizarding world, haha. The first appeals to my simple-life yearnings, the second appeals to my quirkiness. Plus, HP magic just seems to make day to day life so much easier!

Q – Have you written any fantasy novels? If so, what’s it about?

A – I have a full length fantasy novel, FROM UNDER THE MOUNTAIN, coming out in January. It’s about a young woman who becomes empress after her entire family is murdered; immediately after ascending to the throne, she must deal with an anti-magic movement that includes her lover, and then team up with a psychopathic god to combat an ancient force breaking free from under the mountain.

Q – Do you have any upcoming fantasy stories?

A – I have the novel above coming out, and there are two short stories I plan to release prior to that book’s launch. These stories take place prior to the novel and tease some of the central character dynamics. No dates yet, but as soon as they’re available they’ll be shared on my author page.
